Did You Know

“All-porcelain crowns are aesthetically superior to the metal-bonded crown”

"After living with unsightly teeth for many years I finally took the plunge and had 10 new crowns and 2 veneers for my upper set. Mr Mistry explained the process every step of the way and everyone put me at ease during each visit. The result is amazing, really natural and comfortable and I am so happy.  I can smile now without being self-conscious. Thank you to everyone at Drayton House for your support during this process. Looking forward to getting the bottom set done now!"

Crowns & Bridges

A crown may be the solution for an existing tooth which is too decayed, damaged or discoloured for treatment by other means.

A crown is an artificial restoration that fits over (caps) the remaining part of a prepared tooth, making it strong and giving it the shape of a natural tooth.

A bridge is a way of replacing a missing tooth with a fixed solution.

The most common type is a fixed bridge, which is made by placing crowns on the teeth either side of the space, and then joining the crowns together by placing a solid crown in the space to replace the missing tooth. The two healthy teeth either side of the treated tooth effectively act as abutments, just like a real bridge.

All-Porcelain Crowns

Traditionally tooth coloured crowns were made of a metal shell with porcelain fired on to it. The metal was there to give it strength. However over time they can generate greyness around gum lines.
There is now a new variety of all-porcelain crowns made of a very hard ceramic and entirely metal-free. These all-porcelain crowns are suitable for people with possible allergies to metals and also aesthetically superior to the metal-bonded crown. They are strong and resistant to biting pressure, even in the back molar region. Most importantly all-porcelain crowns offer the unique advantage of being translucent, mimicking the translucency of natural teeth, so giving a more natural appearance.
